Brazilian passenger ship Baependi was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine off the coast of Sergipe, in northeastern Brazil. The ship was traveling along the Brazilian coast when it was attacked without warning. The sinking resulted in the deaths of more than 270 civilians, including women and children. This attack was part of a series of German submarine assaults on Brazilian vessels during World War II.
