Brazil enacted Law No. 10,741, known as the Estatuto do Idoso (Elderly Statute). The law set out a comprehensive framework of rights for people aged 60 and over, covering areas such as health, transportation, social assistance, and protection from abuse. It established duties for the State, society, and family to safeguard older persons’ dignity and well-being. The statute strengthened legal mechanisms to address neglect, discrimination, and violence against older persons.
