Brazil issued the Law of 1 October 1828 that established rules for the election and functioning of municipal chambers (câmaras) in cities and towns of the Empire. The law regulated how councillors would be elected and set out duties and administrative roles connected to local governance. It helped standardize municipal political organization during the early Empire period.
