On September 18, the first television station in Brazil and South America - TV Tupi (channel 3)- was inaugurated in São Paulo by media mogul Assis Chateaubriand. Brazil was the fifth nation in the world to have daily television broadcasts. The first program aired was TV na Taba, a variety show that referenced Brazil's indigenous roots.
