Brazil issued Decree-Law No. 4,657, originally known as the Introductory Law to the Civil Code and today referred to as the Lei de Introdução às Normas do Direito Brasileiro (LINDB). The law sets general rules on how Brazilian laws begin to take effect, how they are applied, and how conflicts of laws are handled. It establishes principles such as the default period for a law to enter into force after official publication, unless the law states otherwise.
