On July 11, 1967, the first expedition of Projeto Rondon departed from Rio de Janeiro. The initiative brought university students and volunteers to underserved regions of Brazil. It aimed to promote social development through education, health assistance, and technical support. The project was named after Cândido Rondon, a pioneer of Brazilian exploration and integration. Projeto Rondon strengthened connections between urban universities and rural communities. It encouraged civic engagement and public service among young Brazilians.
